John Fuller, of Rose Hill, was the only son of the Rev. Henry Fuller and very early in his life he succeeded to the Brightling estate and to a very handsome fortune. John Fuller was returned to Parliament for the county at the general elections of 1801, 1802 and 1806. He was also a patron of the arts - J.M.W. Turner's drawings of "The Vale of Heathfield," "Ashburnham," and "Brightling Observatory" - music and literature lover, and in 1829, he purchased and preserved Bodiam Castle.
