The family of Wilson occupied the Manor House, farther down the High street, on the right, standing back in a garden, and shut off from the road by a high wall. They were descended from Thomas Wilson, of Elton, in Yorkshire, who bore arms in 1250. They appear first in Sussex at Fletching, where John Wilson, J.P., died in 1640. His son, Sir William, of Eastbourne, was created a baronet by Charles II. Edward Wilson, brother of the second baronet, was buried in Buxted great chancel in 1728, and Sir Thomas, the fourth baronet, at Uckfield, in 1759 ……
