INTRODUCTION TO THE FIRST EDITION 2000The object of this monograph is to collect in chronological order the events of the life of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This not only lists the dates applicable to Sir Arthur, but also to his family. No doubt some scholars will dispute some of the dates stated and I have accordingly listed at the end of this booklet the works that have been consulted. All dates that appear in each of the sources quoted, have, I hope, been included. Biographical sources differ over the dates of many of the events of ACD's life. Where such disagreements occur all of the alternative dates have been given in their appropriate chronological location, together with an indication in square brackets as to which source(s) support each dating. Where alternative dates exist, an asterisk (*) is included after the source bracket Where I have been unable to locate the dates of certain events, these appear at the beginning of each year; other events that have no dates are inserted in the relevant part of the year. The Chronology does not pretend to be complete and is, of course, a progressive work. Additional dates will be added as identified, with addenda supplements being issued at intervals, as required I am indebted to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's autobiography, all the authors of the biographies used, and of course without "A Bibliography of A. Conan Doyle" by Richard Lancelyn Green and John Michael Gibson this chronology would never have been attempted. Mrs. Georgina Doyle has carried out her own research on the family and I would like to thank her for supplying the names, birth and death dates, also for checking the final draft. I would also like to thank Squadron Leader Philip Weller, Jane Weller, Mrs. G. Doyle and my partner Christine for their support and encouragement in what started out as only a few page summary, to what you are now reading. New source have been consulted and are included in this new edition, the original text and index has been greatly revised, expanded and corrected. The publishing dates of the stories are included within the Chronology as well as being listed separately. A new section has been added, Statues and Plaques dedicated to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes and Others, which I hope, will be of interest.
