James, Sr and his wife Philadelphia (Collins) left England on April 14, 1841 and after six weeks at sea, arrived in New York City on May 24, 1841. After processing through immigration*, they traveled about two hundred miles to settle in upper New York State, in the village of Vernon, in Oneida County. After residing there for about ten years, the family decided to relocate. They traveled via the Erie Canal to Buffalo,, New York, then by steamboat through the Great Lakes, arriving in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on April 28, 1851. There were no railroads between Milwaukee and Jefferson County at that time so they traveled by horse or oxen team for two days to the town of Oakland. In the spring of 1852, James Wenham, Sr. purchased a farm in Hebron Township, Wisconsin where he resided until his death on March 11, 1878. One of the farms that was settled by the Wenhams in 1859 was added to Jefferson County's "Century Farms" list in 1959. The honor was presented in 1963 to Wesley Wenham, Great Grandson of James, Sr. -- Posted on Ancestry by Wanda Hetzel, Wenham family historian
