Ashdown Forest dispute

During The Ashdown Forest Dispute 1876-1882 commoners and land owners were interviewed by the solicitor William Raper. Their comments were recorded in a series of notebooks:

Taylor, Edward. 79. Born at Plumpton, 4 March 1800. Baptised at Plumpton. Good memory so far as his evidence goes. When I was 20 or 21 my Father moved up to Strood Farm, Buxted, which he farmed for 14 years. After that he acted as Bailiff for the owner Mr. Molineux for some time. Then he hired Spring Gardens. I have cut litter ever since I came to this neighbourhood. I remember the bounds by Kings Standing. I and John Allchorn broke into them and cut the litter. There was not enough litter outside so we cut that. I think also we broke in because of a dispute about turf cutting. I cut litter for Strood for my Father, Mr. Molineux, Benham's and Dadswell, Barnsgate, Ned Dadswell, Alfred Dadswell.
