Ashdown Forest dispute
 

During The Ashdown Forest Dispute 1876-1882 commoners and land owners were interviewed by the solicitor William Raper. Their comments were recorded in a series of notebooks:

Stevenson, Thomas. Aged 56. Farmer, etc. Owns Sweet Mine Pits comprising dwelling house and cottage and 11 acres of land held of Duddleswell Manor. Quit rent 18s. 4d. It belonged to his Father before him. He purchased it off Widow Wood.
