Reverend Thomas Frederick Rudstone-Read was educated at Eton and University College, Oxford. He was Rector of Full Sutton, Yorkshire from 1836 to 1845, and Rector of Winteringham, Lincolnshire from 1845 to 1865 and from 1865 until his death in 1892 he was Rector of Withyham. In his twenty-six years at Withyham he was noted for his development of the church with the creation of St Thomas's at Groombridge and a chapel at Blackham.
