Richard Grombreg of Speldhurst dictates his will on 17th December 1536

He is to be buried in Speldhurst. He leaves money for the church, the mother church in Rochester, and for repairs of the Speldhurst church. Money should also be distributed at his "burying" and at his "moneth day" and twelfth "moneth day". He also requests " that my executor do find an abbot(?) yearly for my Schole in Speldhurst church the space of 10 years spending yearly 6s 4d".

He continues: … Item I will that John and Robert my sons other of S… shall pay to Eleonor my wife the terme of her life 10 shillings a piece of them yearly if she do not stand to her dede of f… and if she will stand for it then I will she shall not have this 10 shillings paid to her but she shall only stand to her dede.

Item I will that Eleonor my wife shall have the kitchen and the kitchen chamber at my house at Rusthall forever (?) of her life and fyer (?) another shepe if that she dwell thereon herself.

Item I will that Eleonor my wife have all her stuff that she brought with her and the choice of two fedderbeds that she will choose.

Item I will that my wife shall have two kine to grow and sell and the summer pastures for them for a whole year and in winter they to stand at her own cost and charge.

Item my wife shall have six best … apples in my garden at Rusthall and after as god sendeth fruite to … 2 silver spoons.

Item to John my son other 2 silver spoons and to Robert my son two silver spoons.

Item to Marion my daughter 12 sheep.

Item to Richard Grombreg John Grombreg son an ewe.

Item to every one of my godchildren 2d a piece.

Item to Margaret Elizabeth and Henry the children of John Grumbreg my son every one of them … ewe.

Item to Thomas Margaret and Anne children of Robert Grombreg my son every one of them … ewe.

Item to Jone Grombreg two ewes. Also to Kathyrn Wooddey a sheep.

Item to John Wooddey 3s 4d.

Item to each child of Richard Grombreg a lamb.

Item to every one of Marion children a lamb or the money to buy them and this sheep and lambs to be d… at midsummer next after my decease.

Item I will that John and Robert my sons have XL ready money to the performance of this my last will.

The residue of all my goods movable and unmovable my debts and being payed I bequeath to John and Robert my sons …

I make my executors and Richard Barret (?) … and he to have 3s 4d … to William Saxpee parson (?) there Henry Curd and Robert Coyffe
