In the Name of God Amen I John Pattenden in the Parish of East Grinstead in the county of Sussex being of perfect mind and memory thanks be given to God for the same) calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing it is appointed for all men once to dye, Doe make and ordain this my last will and Testament in manner and form following) that is to say) first and principally I give my Soul into the hands of God who gave it me and my body I commit to the Earth to be buried in christian and decent manner according to the discretion of my Executors herein after named nothing doubting but at the Resurrection I shall receve the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching Such worldly Estate which it hath pleased Almighty God to bless me with in this World I give devise bequeath and dispose of the same in manner and form hereafter following, first I give to my Beloved Wife Elizabeth Pattenden that Farm at Hedgecourt Common in the Parish of East Grinstead now in my Possesion 2 Acers of Land and after her Decese to be Equaly Divided between my Children John Pattenden

Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of Us who have Subscribed our Names as Witnesses at his request in his presence and in the presence of Each other.

(Court copy differs after names of Witnesses) The Will of John Pattenden late of East Grinstead within the Archdeaconry of Lewes deceased was proved the eighth day of June in the year of our Lord One Thousand eight hundred and twenty four Before the Reverend George Proctor Clerk Surrogate and so forth Upon the Oath of Edward Pattenden the Sole Executor in the said Will named To whom was committed the Administration of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said Deceased He being first sworn well and faithfully to administer the same and so forth Sworn also that the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said Deceased do not amount in Value unto One Hundred Pounds.
