“Milcah Perry who lived as a servant to Mrs Hurry, a very old lady much confined to her room, went upstairs one day and said, “Mistus, can you tell me where the bellows be?” to which her ‘Mistus’ replied, “Why surely Milky you must be in love. Why there they are under your elbow”, where they were, sure enough!”. The writer of these entries was the Revd J Coker Egerton, a collector of anecdotes, and who subsequently published a book entitled “Sussex Folk and Sussex Ways”.
