| Maresfield is a village and parish in the East Grinstead division of Sussex, in the hundred of Rushmonden, rape of Pevensey, rural deanery of Uckfield, archdeaconry of Lewes and diocese of Chichester. Maresfield is 41 miles south of London. The population of Maresfield in 1811 was 1,117; in 1841 was 1,578; in 1861 was 1,911; in 1871 was 1,965; in 1881 was 2,082; in 1891 was 2,116; in 1901 was 2,001; in 1911 was 2,278; in 1921 was 3,610 (including 1,380 persons in the Royal Corps of Signals Training Centre); and in 1931 was 2,309. |
